In this article, we begin by providing reasons for students and teachers to collaborate, and then we define teaching so that it is feasible to consider students as co-teachers. We briefly explain the methods that allow students to become co-teachers. Through thee vignettes, we show the student co-teachers in action and illustrate five elements of the cooperative teaching and learning process in action. We summarize the emerging research base on students as co-teachers, provide a method for student co-teachers to be assessed, and examine perceived challenges to engaging students as co-teachers.
