Abstract

The new special education policies in Chile offer us the opportunity to redefine the role of special schools and job training centres, from the inquisitive view of the current reality, in contrast to the idea of the integration of people with intellectual disabilities and the strengthening of the quality of the educational process that takes place in special schools.

The following article does not intend anything other than to allow us to reflect on the data provided by the Ministry of Education, our experience in special schools and our participation in the Socio-Labour Integration Programme for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities of the Central University based on Supported Employment as a Viable Technology.
