Presentation: Disability and Independent Living
Abstract
In this issue of the Latin American Journal of Inclusive Education, we address one of the topics that currently occupies a central place on the international scene: the binomial of disability and independent living. We do so in the conviction that by doing so we will be contributing to shed light on some areas that are still hidden, in the shadows, in a field that belongs to everyone, except to those who or about whom so much is said: people with disabilities.
A necessary and urgent analysis, which also places us in the field of ethics when considering any progress on this issue. In fact, we understand that in this debate we should no longer leave out people with disabilities, or as they themselves claim to be renamed, with functional diversity, which is why some of the works are signed by activists who are beginning to take centre stage and bring the famous cry ‘nothing about us without us’ to the field of knowledge, to the field of science. In short, to write their own history.
